All Rubbish (except as below) $266 per tonne

Buried rubbish (e.g. documents, odorous materials) $266 per tonne (plus all associated costs)

Asbestos, HAIL and Hazardous waste $267 per tonne (plus all associated costs)

Polystyrene $3,400 per tonne

Light Wastes and Sawdust (treated & untreated) $375 per tonne

Eves Valley Class 3 (Contaminated soil/HAIL only) $164 per tonne

Understanding Landfill Fees

The above fees are set from 1 July 2025 and are updated each year which runs from the 1 July to 30 June.

The fees and charges for the York Valley landfill are set by the Nelson Tasman Regional Landfill Business Unit (NTRLBU) and are confirmed by the Nelson City and Tasman District Councils as part of the annual plan process.

These rates are an increase of 6.4% from the 2024/2025 year. This principal drivers for the increased fees are:

  • a 2.2% increase in landfill charges to accommodate inflation, and

  • an additional $5 per tonne to accommodate the additional Waste Minimisation levy. This levy increases from $60 per tonne to $65 per tonne for the 2025/2026 year.
