The above current fees run through to 30 June 2027.

Understanding Landfill Fees

The above fees for York Valley are set from 1 July 2026 and are updated each year which runs from the 1 July to 30 June.

The fees and charges are set by the Nelson Tasman Regional Landfill Business Unit (NTRLBU) and are confirmed by the Nelson City and Tasman District Councils as part of the annual plan process.

These rates are an increase of 17% from the 2025/2026 year on the general refuse rate, other rates have been held. The principal drivers for the increased fees are:

• a 2.5% increase in landfill charges to accommodate inflation.

• an additional $26 per tonne to fund the council Local Disposal Levy used to pay for council waste activities.

• an additional $5 per tonne to accommodate the additional Waste Minimisation levy. This levy is $70 per tonne.
